Self-Employment Visa

(Selbstständigen Tätigkeit Visum)

Step 1: Business Plan Preparation

The Self-Employment visa is designed for individuals intending to engage in self-employment in Germany. Ensure that your business plans align with this visa’s purpose. Craft a comprehensive business plan outlining your proposed self-employed activities. Clearly present your business concept, financial projections, and how your venture will contribute to the local economy.

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

Collect the necessary documents to support your visa application:

  • Visa Application Form: Obtain and complete the national visa application form for language learning (we can help with that).
  • Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay in Germany.
  • Passport Photos: Provide recent passport-sized photos according to the specified requirements.
  • Proof of Funds: Demonstrate you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses and tuition fees.
  • Health Insurance: Acquire health insurance coverage for your stay in Germany. We recommend this one. It is accepted by the Ausländerbehörde.
  • Accommodation Proof: Show evidence of suitable accommodation arrangements (for example: Anmeldung).
  • Business plan: Detailed document outlines your business concept, target market, competition analysis, financial projections, and more. It helps authorities assess the economic feasibility of your self-employment.
  • Proof of qualifications or relevant experience: Demonstrate your qualifications or relevant experience in the field of your self-employment. This could be educational degrees, certifications, or work experience that supports your capability to run the proposed business.
  • Job Offers: Secure at least three job offers, with the employers expressing their intention to collaborate with you after obtaining your Self-Employment Visa.

Step 3: Schedule an Appointment

Contact the German embassy or consulate in your home country to schedule a visa appointment. It is also possible to submit the application at the Foreigners Office (Ausländerbehörde) in Berlin. It’s advisable to do this well in advance to ensure timely processing.

Step 4: Attend the Visa Interview

Attend the visa interview at the embassy, consulate or the Ausländerbehörde. Be prepared to answer questions about your language learning plans and provide supporting documents.

Step 5: Submit Your Application

Submit your completed visa application form along with the required documents during your visa appointment.

Step 6: Await Visa Processing

After submitting your application, patiently await the visa processing period. This may vary, so check with the embassy or consulate for estimated timelines.

Once your visa is approved, make travel arrangements to Berlin. Ensure you have a valid entry visa stamped in your passport before departure.

Once in Berlin, you’ll need to register your address (Anmeldung) at the local registration office (Bürgeramt).

Step 9: Engage in Self-Employment

Commence your self-employed activities as outlined in your business plan. It’s time to make your entrepreneurial dreams a reality! Do not forget to register your self-employment at the public order office (Ordnungsamt) of the district in which your company is based. Also, you will need to register at the Tax office (Finanzamt).
